Warning Against Gold Bullion Certificates

10.23.2006

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) is again warning the public not to believe individuals or companies attempting to sell or trade so-called “Safekeeping Receipt” or “Bank Guarantees” allegedly issued by past and present officials of the BSP supposedly covering certificate of gold bullion deposits.

The BSP has never issued such types of document because it does not accept gold bullion deposits for safekeeping. Therefore, any documents alleging that certain individuals or companies have gold bullion deposits with the BSP are fraudulent, fictitious and outright forgeries.

The BSP has been issuing warnings against fictitious certificates of gold bullion deposits since April 2000.

The public is advised to report individuals or companies passing off such documents to the Investigation Staff of the Cash Department at the BSP head office in Manila through telephone numbers 523-9806 and 524-7011 local 2388 or via e-mail through bspmail@bsp.gov.ph
