The Philippine Statistical Association (PSA), in cooperation with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), will hold the 2007 Summer Conference on Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), with the theme OFWs: Bagong Bayani, Ilan ba talaga kayo? The Conference will be held on 5 June 2007, from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the BSP Assembly Hall, 3rd floor, Three-Storey Building, BSP Complex.
This year’s summer conference theme was specifically chosen in response to the need to obtain a better handle on the number of OFWs based on the stock estimate of the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO), the deployment statistics of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) and the survey results of the National Statistics Office (NSO). Resource persons from concerned agencies will present the concepts and the framework to generate OFW statistics in the Philippines, including comparisons with international standards. There will also be a discussion on the measurement of workers’ remittances.
The conference is open to both PSA members and non-members (such as officials of concerned government agencies, academe, non-government organizations, banking community, and media) who are interested in understanding the statistics on OFWs. Registration fee is P100 for members and P200 for non-members. For queries and reservations, please contact Ms. Jennifer Castillo, Secretariat Assistant of the PSA at 920-6513 or 456 -1928.
