BSP is 2008 Presidential Lingkod Bayan Awardee

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, assisted by Civil Service Commission Chairman Ricardo Saludo (left), led the awarding ceremonies for public servants during the 108th anniversary of the Philippine Civil Service where the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas bagged two major awards: the 2008 Presidential Lingkod Bayan award for the Bank’s development of an Electronic Rediscounting System and the Civil Service Commission Pagasa award for Froilan Roque of the BSP Security Plant (right). The e-rediscounting system, developed by the Department of Loans and Credit headed by Director Rose Dumaliang (center) and the Information Technology Sub-Sector headed by acting Managing Director Teresita Bulseco, is an internet-based facility that allows banks, including those in the countryside, to conduct real-time rediscounting transactions with the BSP from the convenience of their offices. The system dramatically improved the efficiency of the BSP’s loan processing, resulting in a fast and efficient delivery of credit to banks, increased the flow of credit in the countryside, and minimized transaction costs of participating banks and their clients. The awardees were joined by BSP Assistant Governor Rene Carreon (second from right).
