BSP-DepEd Coin Collection Program Generates Millions for Public Schools

06.11.2009

The nationwide joint campaign of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and the Department of Education to promote efficient recirculation of coins by encouraging donations for public elementary schools continues to receive support from the banking sector. This week, Monetary Board Members Nelly Favis-Villafuerte (second from left) and Raul Boncan (fifth from left) witnessed the turnover by Chinabank First Vice President Alex Escucha (third from left) of their bank’s coin collection worth P100,000.00 to Department of Education’s Adopt A School Manager Roel Bonito (center). Also present at the turnover were BSP Corporate Affairs Director Fe de la Cruz (left), Deputy Director Roberto Syquia (sixth from left) and Chinabank Marketing Services Department Head Mary Ann Ducanes. The program, called “Tulong Barya Para sa Eskwela” has generated at least P15 million in benefits for public schools since its launching: P7.6 million in cash and 510 brand new computers worth P8.2 million donated by the Bangko Sentral from coin production savings with the recirculation of coins donated under “Tulong Barya Para sa Eskwela.”
