The BSP will hold its Public Information Campaign (PIC) on the Role of the BSP in the Philippine Economy at the L’Fisher Hotel, Bacolod City today, 22 March 2010. The program starts at 1:00 p.m. and is expected to end at 5:00 p.m. The BSP’s PIC, which has been ongoing for ten years, aims to inform the public of the most recent economic and financial developments in the country, enhance public awareness on the role of the BSP in the economy and engage BSP stakeholders in discussions to obtain feedback on how to improve the delivery of the BSP’s services. A better informed public is key to a more participatory engagement in the country’s economic development.
Topics that will be covered by audio visual presentations and lectures during the Public Information Campaign include the role of the BSP in the Philippine economy, microfinance, e-money, payments and settlements system, and recent economic developments. The presentations will be followed by an open forum. An interactive exhibit on the three pillars of central banking, featuring multi-media learning materials and quizzes will also be available at the venue during the event.
To date, the BSP has conducted more than 80 PICs all over the country since 2000. These campaigns have been attended by more than 6,000 representatives from the academe, business and labor sectors, the banking community, government and non-government organizations, as well as members of the media. For 2010, the BSP is targeting ten campaigns to be conducted in various cities nationwide.
