The National Statistics office (NSO) will conduct the 2010 Census of Population and Housing (2010 CPH) on 17 May 2010. This activity intends to make an inventory of the population and housing units in the Philippines and collect information about their demographic characteristics. The results of the census provide govenment planners, policy makers, and administrators with data on which to base their social and economic development plans and programs.
The Census will be undertaken by representatives from the NSO who will conduct house-to-house visits and personal interviews of the household head or a responsible member of the family. The segment of the population living in institutional living quarters such as hospitals, sanitaria, penitentiary, military camps, convents, seminaries will also be visited by census personnel for an exhaustive census coverage. The data collection will commence on 17 May 2010 and will last for about 23 days. Census data will be made public before 31 December 2010.
