The BSP will host the second in its series of conferences on “Gearing Up for External Competitiveness” on 25 June 2010 at the MarriottHotel in Cebu City. The program starts at 9:00 am and is expected to end at 1:00 pm. The conference aims to:
1) raise the awareness of exporters, importers, organizations of Overseas Filipinos (OFs), business process outsourcing firms (BPOs), and other entities with foreign exchange dealings and obligations, on the various ways to manage their foreign exchange risks, and 2) highlight the factors that impact on the country’s external competitiveness.
The event will provide an opportunity for participants from the business sector, the banking community, the academe, and government agencies in Cebu to discuss issues that impact on the country’s external competitiveness. Resource speakers for the conference will come from the academe, a multilateral organization, the banking sector and the BSP. Topics that will be covered include: the overview of the country’s competitiveness landscape; selected country experiences on determinants of external competitiveness; the strategies for managing foreign exchange risks; the BSP’s regulations on hedging; and measures and reforms to enhance the competitiveness of Filipino exporters.
The first of the series of conferences was held at the BSP Complex in Manila on 7 May 2010. The participants consisted of representatives from exporters and importers organizations, government agencies, the academe, media and BSP officials.
