In observance of the 15th National Statistics Month this October 2004, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), along with the Department of Education (DepEd) will sponsor the Annual Oratorical Contest for the eight consecutive year. To be held on 27 October 2004 at 8:30 a.m. at the BSP Assembly Hall, BSP Complex, Manila, this year's contest finals will feature 15 fourth year high school students from schools in the National Capital Region (NCR) to compete for the top prize.
This year’s theme, “Rising Beyond Global Challenges through Quality Philippine Statistics” focuses on the importance and value of quality statistics in promoting good corporate governance and sound policy decision-making in the government and the private sector.
The contest seeks to promote, enhance and instill nationwide awareness and appreciation of the importance and value of statistics to the different sectors of society; and to elicit the cooperation and support of the general public in upgrading the quality and standards of statistics in the country. The BSP-Dep-Ed-sponsored contest has been adjudged as the Best Statistical Contest in the country for the past two years.
Substance and content, delivery and audience impact will be the basis for choosing the winners. This year's judges are prominent personalities from the BSP, DepEd, the academe and the media.
A cash prize of Php 20,000 awaits the first place winner, while the second and third place winners will receive Php 15,000 and Php 10,000, respectively. Trophies will also be awarded to all the winners and their schools.
