The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), in collaboration with the Department of Education (DepED), will sponsor the Oratorical Contest for the National Capital Region (NCR) on 28 October 2011, 1:00 p.m. at the BSP Assembly Hall. This event is the culminating activity of the National Statistics Month (NSM).
This year’s theme is “Kalidad na Estadistika sa Pangangalagang Panlipunan: Pagpapahusay ng Gawa, Pagpapaunlad ng Buhay”. The primary objectives of this activity are: 1) to promote, enhance and instill nationwide awareness and appreciation of the importance and value of statistics to the different sectors of society; and 2) to elicit the cooperation and support of the public in upgrading the quality and standards of statistics in the country.
Since 1996, the contest has served as an excellent opportunity not only to promote awareness of statistics among private and public high school students but also to acquaint them with timely critical issues in the Philippines. Senior high school contestants deliver oratorical pieces emphasizing the importance of statistics around the specific theme for the annual NSM.
On 28 October 2011, 17 finalists from the National Capital Region will deliver their oratorical pieces. It is expected that this year’s event will provide the opportunity for student-orators to showcase their oratorical skills, develop their persuasive arguments, and provide valuable food for thought on how quality statistics can improve the socio-economic conditions of the Filipinos.
A cash prize of P25,000 will be awarded to the first place winner, while the second and third place winners will receive P20,000 and P15,000, respectively. Trainers of the winners will get 30 percent of the respective cash prizes. Trophies will also be awarded to the three winners and their schools.
