11.23.2011 BEWARE OF TEXT/E-MAIL SCAMS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ GOT A TEXT/E-MAIL MESSAGE THAT YOU WON A LOTTERY/RAFFLE OR THAT YOU ARE OFFERRED A LARGE SUM OF MONEY?
YOU ARE ASKED TO ADVANCE SOME MONEY BEFORE YOU CAN CLAIM YOUR PRIZE? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ YOU RECEIVED A TEXT/E-MAIL SCAM!
A text/e-mail scam is a form of swindling. The text/e-mail scammer sends to a prospective victim a message notifying him that he and/or his mobile number has won in an electronic/mobile phone-based lottery/raffle. The victim is then persuaded by the text/e-mail scammer to advance sums of money to the criminals either through bank fund transfer or prepaid loan to the scammer’s mobile phone number, instead of receiving the promised lottery/raffle prize.
The fraudster may pose as an official of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP). The fraudster may also imitate the letterhead of the BSP letterhead, seal and the signatures of BSP officials. The public is again warned that the BSP does not engage in games of chance or raffle of this nature. The BSP does not also directly engage in financial transactions with private individuals.
DO NOT DEAL WITH SCAMMERS!
REMEMBER – DO NOT give personal information such as your full name, telephone/mobile phone number, address, age or occupation to people you do not know. FOR FURTHER CLARIFICATION, PLEASE CONTACT:
