The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and the Department of Education (DepEd) will select the winners from among 16 finalists of the first “BSP-DepEd On-the-Spot Essay Writing Contest” at the Economic Financial Learning Center, BSP Head Office, Malate, Manila on December 2 at 9:00 a.m.
The writing competition for fourth year high school students in the National Capital Region (NCR) is themed, “Edukasyon Pampananalapi: Pundasyon Tungo sa Mas Matatag na Ekonomiya (Financial Education: Building Block for a Stronger Economy).”
The contest aims to provide students with the opportunity to express their ideas through writing; promote awareness and instill the significance of managing personal finance; and uplift Filipino values by encouraging thrift and savings among Filipinos.
Sixteen finalists have been initially selected from the DepEd divisions of Manila, Caloocan, Las Piñas, Makati, Malabon, Mandaluyong, Marikina, Muntinlupa, Navotas, Pasay, Pasig, Parañaque, Quezon City, San Juan, Valenzuela and Taguig-Pateros.
Spearheaded by BSP’s Financial Consumer Affairs Group, the contest requires finalists to write their pieces in Filipino and to limit their essays to 500 words.
The champion will receive a gold medal and P10,000 as prize; the second placer, a silver medal and P7,000; and the third placer, a bronze medal and P5,000.
The winner’s trainers will also receive cash prizes while their schools will be given plaques. The awarding ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m. on December 6 at the Executive Business Centre at the BSP Head Office.
