Elementary school children across the country yesterday received a joint message from Department of Education Secretary Bro. Armin Luistro (right) and Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor Amando Tetangco, Jr. (left) on the value of saving regularly, in observance of National Savings Consciousness Week - from June 30 to July 6. The message was read after the flag-raising ceremony. The launching of Kiddie Accounts by 12 major banks under the Bank Marketing Association of the Philippines also signaled that banks now welcome school children to open deposit accounts with them with starting deposits of at least P100.00, with no maintaining balance. The theme of the celebration is "Banking on your Future Starts With You. Save.” The country has more than 13 million elementary students today, most of whom do not have bank accounts. Today, July 3 is the BSP's 19th anniversary.
