The Philippines through the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas won the CYFI Country Award, the top global honor given by the Child and Youth Finance International at its 2013 International Summit in Istanbul this week. An international jury selected the BSP’s program as the most outstanding national child and youth finance program: it covers the integration of finance lessons in the elementary education curriculum in partnership with the Department of Education and the development of child-friendly deposit products that promote saving in cooperation with the banking community. The four other finalists are Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Uganda and the United Kingdom. The trophy given by United Nations Capital Development Fund Executive Secretary Marc Bichler (left) and financial literacy advocate Ozlem Denizmen of Turkey (right) to BSP Director Fe de la Cruz was presented later to BSP Governor Amando Tetangco Jr. In photo are, from left: BSP Advocacy Group (AG) Assistant Manager Jetzer Tan, Deputy Director Rogelio Garcia, Director de la Cruz, Governor Tetangco, AG Manager Jay Amatong and AG Assistant Almina Libao.
