The second Conference on Gearing Up for External Competitiveness (CGUEC) for 2014 will be held on 19 November 2014 in Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental. A similar conference was held at the Subic Freeport in Zambales last May 2014.
The CGUEC, which forms part of the BSP’s Economic and Financial Learning Program, will bring together members of the business sector, academe and the government in the Northern Mindanao Region and provide an opportunity to: 1) raise the awareness of exporters, importers, organizations of overseas Filipinos, business process outsourcing firms, and entities with foreign currency dealings and obligations on the various ways to manage their foreign exchange risks, and 2) discuss the issues that impact on the country’s external competitiveness.
The conference will cover topics such as the recent economic developments and outlook; foreign exchange rate developments and policies; strategies for managing foreign exchange risks; the BSP’s regulatory framework on hedging; and cross-country experiences on achieving external competitiveness.
BSP Monetary Board Member Valentin A. Araneta will open the CGUEC and provide an overview of the prospects for the Philippine economy and issues on external compete tiveness. Meanwhile, resource persons for the conference will come from the academe, multilateral organizations, the financial sector and government agencies including the BSP. Participation in the conference will be by invitation.
