The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), in collaboration with the Department of Education (DepEd), will hold the 21st BSP-DepEd Annual Oratorical Contest (17th at the National Capital Region (NCR) Level) on 28 October 2016, starting at 1:00 p.m. at the BSP Assembly Hall. The contest will also serve as the culminating event for the celebration of the National Statistics Month (NSM).
Sixteen 10th grade students representing the 16 divisions in the NCR will compete in the oratorical contest finals. Their oratorical pieces, to be delivered in Filipino, will highlight the importance of statistics in line with this year’s NSM theme, “Makabuluhang Estadistika para sa Likas-kayang Pag-unlad” (Sustainable Development: Making Statistics Count).
Since 1996, the contest has been an effective platform in instilling awareness and appreciation of the significance and value of statistics to the different sectors of society, as well as in enjoining the public to support activities aimed at upgrading the quality and standards of statistics in the country. This year’s event will provide student-orators the opportunity to showcase their oratorical skills and present the youth’s views on the importance of statistics in measuring and analyzing the progress of sustainable development plans, strategies, and goals.
The first place winner of the oratorical contest will receive a cash prize of P25,000, while the second and third place winners will be given P20,000 and P15,000, respectively. Trainers of the first, second and third place winners will be given cash awards as well. The three (3) winners and their schools will likewise be awarded with trophies, while non-winning students and trainers will receive consolation prizes. Medals were also given during the elimination rounds at the division level that were conducted from 29 September to 5 October 2016.
