04.06.2004 The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) is again warning the public to disregard and not to believe text messages informing the receiver that he won in a raffle allegedly sponsored by the BSP. This is a text scam being perpetrated by unscrupulous individuals victimizing innocent people. Their modus operandi is to send text messages to their victims informing them of the following: that they won in a raffle based on the last digits of their cell phone numbers; that the raffle is being sponsored by BSP or other foundations; that the alleged cash prize ranges from one to two million pesos; and that to be able to claim the prize they should first deposit money in a bank account supposedly to cover tax payments.
We repeat, Bangko Sentral does not engage in games of chance or any raffle of this nature.
