The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) enjoins the cooperation of the public in preserving the integrity of Philippine currency through sharing of verified and truthful information. The public is also encouraged to recirculate Philippine coins through regular use in daily transactions.
The BSP has been issuing commemorative coins that are designed and produced in limited quantities to showcase significant events, the legacy of a deceased person, Philippine landmarks, or an advocacy. Together with BSP-issued banknotes and coins, commemorative coins are deemed legal tender and may be used to purchase goods or services, unless these coins have been demonetized.

Coins in the NGC Series feature the new logo of the BSP, three national heroes - Jose Rizal in the 1-Piso, Andres Bonifacio in the 5-Piso and Apolinario Mabini in the 10-Piso, a stylized three stars and a sun in the 25-, 5- and 1-Sentimo, and endemic flora.
