In line with the celebration of the 13th National Statistics Month this October, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) together with the Department of Education (DepEd) will hold the sixth annual oratorical contest under the theme “Responsive Statistics for Good Governance.” The annual competition aims to instill national awareness of the importance of statistics to the different sectors of society as well as to gain support from the general public in upgrading the quality and standard of statistics in the country.
The contest is open to all 4th year high school students, from any private or public high school in the National Capital Region recognized by the DepEd. The topic should be in line with the objectives and theme of the NSM and should be delivered in Filipino within 8 to 10 minutes. Participants will be judged according to the substance and content of their piece, delivery and audience impact.
DepEd-NCR will select 15 division winners to compete for the NCR finals which will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2002 at the 11th Floor lobby of the Multi-Storey Building of the BSP. The contest starts at 8:30 AM. The keynote address for the event will be delivered by Monetary Board Member Melito S. Salazar Jr., while the winners of the contest will be announced by Dr. Vicente B. Valdepenas, Chairman of the Board of Judges. Closing address for the contest will be delivered by DepEd Usec. Fe A. Hidalgo. National Statistical Coordination Board Secretary-General Romulo A. Virola will deliver the closing remarks for the National Statistics Month celebration.
The winner will receive a cash prize of P20,000 while the second and third placers will get P15,000 and P10,000 respectively. Trophies will also be awarded to all the winners and the schools they represent.
