2023 AFI Global Policy Forum

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and the Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI) will jointly host the 2023 AFI Global Policy Forum (GPF) from 12 to 15 September in Manila. AFI is a global network of central banks, financial regulators, and other stakeholders from 76 countries working together to promote and develop policy solutions and regulation that improve lives of the poor through financial inclusion. The 2023 AFI GPF in Manila, with the theme “Stability, Sustainability, and Inclusivity for Shared Prosperity,” is expected to draw around 800 local and international participants, including heads and senior officials of central banks, financial regulators, and other partner institutions.

Host

One of the founding members of the AFI network, the BSP will be hosting the GPF for the first time. The BSP became the first central bank in the world to have an office dedicated to financial inclusion—a testament to its long-term commitment to advancing the agenda forward.

The BSP remains at the forefront of establishing a policy and regulatory environment conducive to financial inclusion, driving programs and advocacies to improve access to financial services, especially among unserved and underserved segments of the population. An important aspect of the BSP’s financial inclusion work is its active participation in various fora as knowledge exchange platforms and as means to sustain broad-based support for the agenda.

Theme

The event tagline, “Stability, Sustainability, and Inclusivity for Shared Prosperity” emphasizes the importance of financial inclusion and sustainable development for monetary and financial stability. This year’s GPF explores critical questions such as: How can we best promote financial inclusion alongside financial stability and integrity? How do we institutionalize efforts to promote financial inclusion? How can we ensure that targets are met? How can we capitalize on the transformational impact of technology while keeping its risks in check, thereby ensuring that disadvantaged and vulnerable groups are not left behind?

The pearl-inspired design of the 2023 GPF logo represents the Philippines’ popular historical sobriquet, “Pearl of the Orient Seas” – owing to its strategic location, cultural diversity, and its abundance of natural beauty and resources. The Philippines is also known as an important source of South Sea Pearl – one of the most popular pearls in the world. The logo reflects both a pearl and abstract visualization of the Philippine map – beautifully capturing the country’s hosting of the 2023 GPF. Equally important, it conveys a strong visual connection to the conference theme itself. The colorful, dynamic shapes pointing toward the inner pink dot (representing Manila) depict the convergence of the conference’s thematic areas of stability, sustainability, and inclusivity toward shared prosperity. Finally, the colors and shapes echo agility and dynamism – vital values that underpin the pursuit of financial inclusion.
